Creativity in Translation: A Theoretical Presentation Followed by Examples from Renowned Translators

Abstract

This article seeks to study creativity in translation, a subject closely related to the definition of translation. Indeed, this notion has always been treated under different terms by both literalists and ciblistes, which shows the importance of this question. Therefore, in this research, we will first briefly briefly present new points of view on creation or recreation in translation, those of theorists such as Stefanink, Balacescu, Hewson, Rydning, Folkart, Mariaule, Lavault-Olléon and Ballard. This will allow us to recognize the different levels of creativity, its aspects, criteria, as well as its limits and constraints. Next, by comparing the processes that demonstrate creativity with two stylistic figures specific to Persian literature, Idjaz and Etnab, we will study passages of prose and poetry containing this fundamental element of translation in some great Iranian translators (Mohamad-Ali Forougui, Mohamad Ghazi, Mohamad-Ali Sepanlou, Bijan Elahi, Abolhassan Nadjafi and Mahdi Sahabi). At the end, we will explore how renowned translators, highly skilled in the mastery of their mother tongue, manage through personal initiative in admirably translating French works through their creativity.
