Study of the formation of memory in the story of A Man Asleep by George Perec from the point of view of Henri Bergson's views

Abstract

Literature is an arena where writers pursue their goals and ideas to show their complex story themes and techniques through linguistic innovations. This is achieved within the context of socio-historical necessities and transformations as well as individual situations. Also, the linguistic and textual creativity depict the subtleties of the story regarding concepts, themes, symbols and forms of storytelling. Therefore, the created writing unfolds as a reflection of the mental, psychological and social motivations of the authors. Georges Perec, one of the contemporary French writers, shows the anxieties, strangeness and shattered identity of the contemporary man with the most delicate playful textual images along with the sharp satire of the society. The present study, by examining the forms of memory as explored by Perec and employing descriptive-analytical approach, explains the author's concepts of time and human experience from the perspective of Henri Bergson. The role of time and its flow in identifying story moments are also highlighted.
