This study explored the paratext in the translation of Victor Hugo’s The Last Day of a Condemned Man from the perspective of critical discourse analysis. It focused on the cover of the book, which is the first and most fundamental part that the public notices and that presents the specific identity of the work. It argued that cover is very important for the readers and plays an effective role in disseminating the author's thoughts in society. It analyzed the implications and the ideology in two Persian translations of this novel, rendered by Mohammad Ghazi and Banafsheh Faris Abadi using the critical discourse analysis and Farahzad’s three-dimensional CDA model. It showed how the covers of these two translations differ. It demonstrated how the two translators had been committed to the conditions of the society of their time and how sensitive they had been to directly express the main theme of the work. This had compelled them to approach this sissue indirectly through translation, and this indirect expression had also been revealed on the cover of the translated work.
